HISTORY OF GAERTNER GROUP

	Established in January 1973 by Erich M Gaertner, EM Gaertner Trading Co concentrated initially on the export of fresh produce, frozen meat and fish. The early 1980's saw the introduction of imported frozen meat and poultry and trading in fruit pulps. Growth and diversification in the 1990's saw the group split its operations into different entities. Orion Cold Storage (Pty) Ltd remains one of the leading importers and distributors of basic frozen foods into Southern Africa.


	Gaertner Exporters CC currently concentrates on the export of fresh produce, fish and charcoal. The last decade has seen the addition of Superwatt (Pty) Ltd focusing on backup power solutions. The group relocated to its Muizenberg Head office in May 2009, achieving its goal of centralizing all of its operations under a single roof.
